Boy… has it been a long month! February 9th we got the call… first from my mom then 5 minutes later the emergency app on my phone started going off. My mom was frantic asking if everyone was safe and out of the danger zone. Blame it on social media how my mom got the news before us…
I live in a nice semi-rural area in the foothills of Northern California. Our little (not really so little any more) town is the proud owner of the highest earth-filled Dam in America > the Oroville Dam. I’m sure many of you have heard of it by now as it has been a hot topic in the news as of late, with it’s spillways eroding and the emergency evacuation that took place… we are still under an evacuation, but the mandatory orders have been reduced to a stern warning to be vigilant and stay updated so we are ready at a moments notice should the spillways fail.
The emergency crews are still working 24/7 to ensure the safety of our town as well as other towns aound us that would be in danger of flooding should the worst case scenario happen and our spillways fail. I do believe they are getting things under control and for the most part we are out of danger as the lake levels have been reduced and repairs are under way to our emergency spillway, they will need to wait to repair the main spillway. At the moment they are concentrating on clearing debri from the area below it since there is a dangerous build up.
These emergency crew workers are our heroes!! I just want to thank them all & let people know how hard they are working to keep us safe! They have been risking their lives under uncertain and dangerous conditions for two weeks now>>24 hours a day. I am so thankful that we have these brave and determined individuals in our community to call on in when needed.
Things have been scary… a little unnerving, and definately alarming! When the evacuation orders came, people paniced, there was much chaos and many accidents on the roads where people, in their hysteria, just abandoned the cars on the road-ways. I heard about looting in town and other horror stories… However, I have had a great deal of peace through most of this ordeal. I have to give the glory to God for that! my faith in his ability to save us has kept me free from much of the anxieties that many in this town are dealing with right now. I know God is with us and he has the plan! He is after all>> The All Mighty! The Alfa & Omega! The Protector! The Great I AM! I don’t know his plan or even what the future holds for our community but I do know, there is no place I would rather be right now than in our Heavenly Father’s protective embrace.♥
